In Ireland the harp is not only the country's official instrument, it adorns their flag, currency, beer labels and nearly every corner tavern and public square.  In this green land, the harp is a universal symbol for Ireland's heart, beauty and pride.

Little wonder!  As this album readily displays, the harp is a versatile instrument that can dance a mean jig or air, pause for a moment and launch into reels, flings, marches and waltzes.  One moment it is laughter itself, another it is the mourning of a loved one's passing, each conveyed with hauntingly beautiful melodies.

Between the texture and echoes of Rachel's wondrous sound, you can almost hear the great Irish manors where so many Irish composers played for a simple meal and a night's shelter.  One such man, the great blind Irish composer from the early 1700's, Turlough O'Carolan, whose work is featured so often herein.  His simple, yet soulful melodies remain immensely moving today, all the more amazing given that he could neither see nor read or write music.
